Cantus Basel is a remarkably diverse concert choir of approximately 50 active members. It assembles a diversity of persons with a high interest in music and singing and with different nationality, mother tongue, education, professional and private activities. Singing with Cantus Basel is endorsed from an age of ca. 20 years. Joining the choir is possible until 55.

Pieces performed: The works range from the early baroque to the present, from a capella to orchestral concerts, from vocal ensembles to concerts with several choirs.  Among them are also major pieces for choirs.  We concentrate particularly on music by well-known classical and romantic composers such as Verdi, Bach, Mozart, Haendel, Fauré, Beethoven and Schumann. The conductor allows enough rehearsal time to reach a high standard. 

Concerts: Cantus Basel is lucky enough to perform in acoustically delightful venues such as the Martinskirche, the Stadtcasino Basel, also the Zurich concert hall and the Basel cathedral at the day of prayer and repentance service. We give between 1 and 2 concerts a year.

Rehearsals: We practise every Monday from 19:15 to 21:40  (except during school vacations) in the aula of the Brunnmatt school in Basel. Individual lessons are occasionally possible at 18:40. The choir members particularly enjoy the occasional weekends of singing practice and the especial excitement during the intensive rehearsals with orchestra and soloists shortly before a concert.
